Frequently Asked Questions About 0859

Yes, 0859 in military time equals exactly 8:59 AM in standard 12-hour civilian time. Military time uses a continuous 24-hour scale from 0000 to 2359, which eliminates the need for "AM" or "PM" designations and prevents costly scheduling mistakes.
How do you pronounce or say 0859 in military time?
You pronounce 0859 as "Zero Eight Fifty Nine Hours". In professional military and aviation communication, the leading zeros and digits are clearly articulated to ensure radio transmissions cannot be misunderstood.
Why does 0859 have a leading zero and no AM marker?
Military time always requires four digits for consistency (two for the hour, two for the minutes). Because hours 00 through 11 are inherently morning hours, the "AM" tag is redundant and omitted.
